Drum n Bass

Postby Fonz » 12 Sep 2018, 10:14

I’m more than a bit interested, at the moment, in DnB, but I’m a noob. Other than some Goldie and Photek I don’t know where else to start.
I really don’t want to get bogged down in ‘dancey’ stuff,
or ‘rappy’ nonsense.
I realise I’m 20 years too late, but someone must be not this stuff, or maybe were, in the past.

Suggestions?
Heyyyy!

The Soul Jazz Rumble in the Jungle comp was an essential primer, but that's difficult to get hold of these days. I don't think there was all that much proper jungle, as it happens, it was a very short-lived scene, though there is the more recent darkstep thing which sometimes harks back to the toasting and amen breaks.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Try the LTJ Bukem Logical Progression stuff. Very spacey and jazzy in places. Was quite influential and a good place to start.

Don't let DF's picks put you off ( the first one doesn't even fit the genre). ;)
