This shows the singles chart improving rapidly after the horror of the mid-70s. Still, there are remnants of this horrid era (Darts, Boney M, Child and that horrible racist trash by the previously-great 10CC). Actually, the worst tracks are near the top. Never liked the bland Commodores hit, and Jilted John is just an annoying (not to mention homophobic) novelty record. Sadly, the great Martin Hannett was the producer.
The good news: Supernature is the best Eurodisco track of all time, Sylvester, Hi-Tension, Taste Of Honey and Herbie Hancock are other dancefloor greats and there's good new wave as well. The Rezillos track is fantastic, as is Blondie (the most peerless singles act of the late 70s) and I like Hong Kong Garden, though the borderline racist lines are a little hard to listen to in 2018. Who Are You was probably the last great track The Who did. Also, some great one-offs (Northern Lights, Substitute and 5-7-0-5 all stand up well) mean this is a good chart.
