Rubbish, it's actually a high point for the pop single. I voted for Cerrone, Hi Tension, The Banshees, Blondie, Rezillos, Renaissance, A Taste of Honey, The Who, The Jam, Sylvester..and probably could have gone for a few more.

Poor Andy Gibb :-(. Even Child's limp cover of "It's Only Make Believe" has somehow got a vote.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

That’s pretty much when 13 year old me first got into music and started buying singles, which from that list were Quo, City Boy and the Stranglers.
turn on, tune in, nod off

He is miming playing it at 30 seconds for a bit, then mimes playing the electric guitar.

There's a fair number of these that I think are okay, but "Boogie Oogie Oogie" is the only one I love.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Ah, I never noticed that. Seems a somewhat pointless thing to do for a mimed TotP appearance, but that's Proggers for you :)

I hate that Who record - fucking dreadful so it is.

Decent argument to be made that the best things on this chart are Disco with Cerrone and Sylvester. A Taste Of Honey underrated and a soft spot for Northern Lights.

This shows the singles chart improving rapidly after the horror of the mid-70s. Still, there are remnants of this horrid era (Darts, Boney M, Child and that horrible racist trash by the previously-great 10CC). Actually, the worst tracks are near the top. Never liked the bland Commodores hit, and Jilted John is just an annoying (not to mention homophobic) novelty record. Sadly, the great Martin Hannett was the producer.

The good news: Supernature is the best Eurodisco track of all time, Sylvester, Hi-Tension, Taste Of Honey and Herbie Hancock are other dancefloor greats and there's good new wave as well. The Rezillos track is fantastic, as is Blondie (the most peerless singles act of the late 70s) and I like Hong Kong Garden, though the borderline racist lines are a little hard to listen to in 2018. Who Are You was probably the last great track The Who did. Also, some great one-offs (Northern Lights, Substitute and 5-7-0-5 all stand up well) mean this is a good chart.
