Eagles - Their Greatest Hits
As Chiggers points out, this is now the biggest selling record of all time.
Which three tracks stand out for you? Ur-Eagles?
I’ve not posted links, most of these are pretty well known (I had remind myself of Already Gone, Witchy Woman and One Of These Nights).
Take It Easy is the standout, most of the others blur into a beige, knotless professionalism.
Sometimes that’s enough though.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Yeah, I suppose so. I like 'Lyin' Eyes' quite a bit, too.
The rest can eff off.

I lived in L.A. in the seventies. My theory is that, if you lived in L.A. in the seventies and you weren't DEAF, you either Love or Hate the Eagles.
let's leave it at that.

Re: Eagles - Their Greatest Hits
I'm going to go with "Tequila Sunrise" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" for easygoing mellowness. I've played both of these at afternoon block parties when the sun is going down, and you know, in that context, they're absolutely perfect. My third will be "Take It to the Limit" because I think it's a genuinely moving song. It helps it's sung by the other guy, with the reedy voice, and the repeat at the end is both self-referential and powerful. I've played that one too, and it's a good one too. That '50s rhythm, can't go wrong.
The ones I would definitely skip on here would be the annoying faux-Bee Gees "One of These Nights" and the just kinda boring "Best of My Love".

Well, you're a couple years younger than me. You'll mature in time ...
Wouldn't it be a cool feature if you could vote against things as well? Oh the fun!

I like the way "One of These Nights" begins, that creeping bass line sets a nice mood, like when you're dreaming and you hear music in your head and it seems like you've just composed something great subconsciously, and then the guitar punches in, contaminating it, and something starts to seem not quite right and maybe it's going to slip away from you, and then the guitar closes it off and the verse starts and you snap out of it and remember you're The Eagles and the song must devolve into an awful, awful mess from there.

Take It Easy
Already Gone
Take It To The Limit
My dad loves the fucking Eagles so I've heard all of this about 48 billion times.

I really love ‘Best of My Love’ without any qualifications. It is damned-near perfect.
I also took ‘Tequila Sunrise’ and ‘Lyin’ Eyes’ as both are really strong songs. If I had a fourth, I’d go with ‘Take It To The Limit’ - which is a pretty great record by any measure. After that, I’m fine with ‘Take it Easy’ and ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling.’
The rest could all be forgotten.

Desperado is a lovely song, "One of these nights" has such an imaginative intro (although the rest of song is fairly straight forward), and "Take it easy" is a classic."Witchy woman" is, by far, the worst track present.

I concur heartily.
Super lush and creamy mid 1970s soft rock, beautifully recorded open tuned acoustic instruments and harmonies, with an evocative and moody harmonic text.

Went for Tequila Sunrise, Lyin' Eyes and Take It Easy. One Of These Nights close behind.
Desperado is good too but I prefer Linda Ronstadt's version.

I used to liked "Take It To The Limit" until my friend fucked it for me up by singing "Take it up the hooter" and now his is the only version I can think of. It's even funnier when that really high singing part kicks in near the end.

I love "Already Gone."
"One of these nights" is another favorite and I I have a soft spot for "Best of My Love" because I had the 45 rpm single (a hand-me-down from my oldest brother).

Lyin' Eyes never seems to end. It's only 6 minutes long but it always seems an awful lot longer. Bores me rigid.
I love the intro to One of These Nights and the general Bee Gees vibe of the song itself so that'll be one I vote for.
I can't remember what a couple of them sound like so I'll have to re-acquaint myself with some of this before voting.
There's nothing here as good as Journey to the Sorcerer. Whatever happened to Bernie Leadon?
