Re: FM v M v R
Madge for me, at least the early part of her career. I don't mind either the Green/Spencer/Kirwan or Buckingham/Nicks/Perfect iterations of FM, in fact I quite like them, so they would be second. I'll never listen to Radiohead for reasons that have nothing to do with music, I just decided looking at — and reading interviews with — Old Wonk-Eye that they were public school proggers, so fuck ’em.

Re: FM v M v R
Pre-megastardom FM is great. Understated at times, and some of it is run-of-the-mill, but there's always something nice to listen to and it's basically good music. The Peter Green years were exceptional.
Madonna is good. Never as good as I wished, but what am I going to say. I'm just some music fan. She's Madonna!
Radiohead pretty much blows.

Re: FM v M v R
I going to go for Radiohead. what the hell?
I can appreciate Madonna, really I can. I've heard trans people talk about how much she means to them and I would never presume to take away her place in popular culture. the records don't really do much for me.
Since I'm such an ossified old "Dad Rock" sort of character, you'd think I'd go for Fleetwood Mac, wouldn't you? I'm getting on in years but I hope I have a few million listens of "Oh Well" left. Hell, when Lindsay Buckingham got booted, I was actually interested. how sad is that? I like the band in all it's incarnations more or less but that's not going to win this thing.
"the bends" didn't really click for me. I could "get" "ok computer" and appreciate that somebody was dusting off the old "Art Rock" for newer listeners. I was even excited it won a grammy but I didn't really dig it that much. I found the guy's vocals WAY too samey. BUT.. something happened. Did the vocals get less samey? no. everything ELSE got less samey. a couple of their "albums" don't do much for me but more than a couple of them do. I really like how scattered and unfocused some tracks sound only to sound like well thought out things by the time they finish.
New Dad Rock, I guess.. I usually like hearing what they're up to but sometimes it's a little too laid back even for me. the weirder they are - the more I like them

Re: FM v M v R
My usual routine:
At their best:
Fleetwood Mac
Radiohead
Madonna
Their Average/standard:
Fleetwood Mac
Radiohead
Madonna
At their worst:
Madonna
Radiohead
Fleetwood Mac
Mac it is. Even though they've been truly, truly awful for the past quarter-century plus. And I'm realizing (much to my surprise) that I can't really think of any Madonna stuff I truly dislike. At worst it's dull, but the other two have made some unlistenable shite.

Radiohead blows the other two away. Their 4 albums run from The Bends to Amnesiac was amazing and their live performances during those years were even better. After that they had still good album although a bunch of clunkers. However, their live show still amaes us and watching them transform from a rock to electronica has been awesome.
Madonna has her moments but they are pop and don't keep my attention for very long.
FM had their moments in the early days but got progressively worse as the years went by.

Fleetwood Mac easily of course.
The Material Girl and Radiohead combined couldn't muster a single note of interest to me.

Abstain. I don't care about any of them even a little bit.

Clunkers ?...While the underrated Hail to the Thief (2003) and The King of Limbs (2011) might not be up to snuff, In Rainbows (2007) and A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) stand up to that four album run quite well...
Oh and I picked Radiohead...FM have never done anything for me and while I respect Madge's acumen and don't find her completely without talent, her music has never meant much to me

"moon shaped pool" didn't do much for me. "King of Limbs" sounds new every time I play it.

I don't even recall ever hearing Dog-Shaped Doormat. Even the worst Fleetwood Mac has something I can add to a compilation.

I love In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool is growing on me esp. after this last tour. Both Hail and King have some amazing songs also Radiohead does very little wrong.

Disappointed with that BBC4 doc on Friday night - I thought it'd be a recently-commissioned thing to celebrate her 60th. Instead it was patchy old bollocks from almost 20 years ago!

There's not much to say with Madonna though is there? Are there hidden depths there? Probably not. She's the least mysterious artist ever really. What you see is what there is.

Oh, I don't know.
What more is there in the stories of Dylan, Reed, Lennon, really? I'm not sure their lives are necessarily more interesting. I mean, interesting to us, yeah, and all those tedious rock journos - we project all sorts of stuff onto them. It's all been documented a thousand times. And they're prone to self-mythologising, which 'helps'.
But...yeah, I've never read an interview with Madonna that's been interesting in the slightest. Maybe there are some out there.
