Competitors are split into groups depending on number of participants, say two groups of ten. Each group competes on a round robin (league table) basis, so if there are ten in the group, there are nine rounds and you need nine songs. In each round one of your songs goes up against the choice of one of the other competitors, and anyone who feels like it can vote for the one they like best. Two points for a win, one each for a tie. When the rounds are completed the top two or three in each group (best sorted before we start to avoid unpleasantness) go into another round robin final with new songs.
