I only discovered it a few months back. Play it every week.

And it took YOUR recommendation to persuade me to listen.

Can't even say what I like about it, but...like it I do.

I like it, but it's not their best.

Same here. It's got some lovely stuff on it, but What We Did on Our Holidays would be my first port of call.

I was messaging John that they had vinyl copies on Amazon for something ridiculous like $12.00 and he just happened to be at a record store with a copy in his hands. Serendipity.

No. Phenomenal Cat.

Liege and Lief has Dave Mattacks. The guy just cooks.

Really? So he's a chef as well as a drummer?

Sometimes God gives us an abundance of gifts, I suppose.

You are just awful and I am taking back my Graham Nash posters.

For me it's those two, then the slight but charming first album, THEN Liege & Lief... tied with Full House.

Mattacks is a monster, and I'm certainly not putting him down. But Martin Lamble is to Fairport as Robert Wyatt (drumming-wise) is to Soft Machine: great musical intuition, but even so you could sometimes hear them having to think about what they were doing. I suppose some would say that's a bad thing.

This is the U.S. version of What We Did on Our Holidays (titled simply Fairport Convention). I picked it up maybe a month ago. "I'll Keep it with Mine" is one of the greatest things ever.

I suppose I should clarify that MY Full House (if you will) includes not only "Poor Will And The Jolly Hangman" but also - especially - the lovely "Now Be Thankful".

No Sandy Denny on Full House?

Right. She is missed, but not as much as you might expect.

It's one of those albums I expected to love, it's smack bang in the middle of the Great British folk revival, but I found it too much in thrall to rockist tendencies. Drums rarely work in folk, and the guitars are too intrusive for my liking.

Give me Steeleye or give me death.

Their best I think, although their debut, Holidays and Unhalf are all pretty close. Love that debut, shame it hasn't been reissued on vinyl.
