Hate to be a naysayer, but...no, he rarely lets you down, but he rarely does anything fresh either. He used to be good for a truly great song or two per album amongst the other 12 songs plowing a remarkably similar furrow to those of the last quarter-century (mind you his guitar playing seems to get better and better, which is kind of remarkable), but it's been a while since we've gotten even that.

Still love him, still enjoy him live whenever I see him, but it's been a long time since I've been inspired by an album of his. And this doesn't sound significantly different to me.

You're not entirely wrong, hatz, but I do love him quite unreservedly - and I still find at least two remarkable songs on each album.

(For instance, Salford Sunday and My Enemy on Electric, All Buttoned Up and especially Broken Doll on Still.

he doesn't have a beret, Betty. He played with Patty Griffin who also was a counsellor. Not sure if he played with Richard Thompson.
