Postby pcqgod » 13 Jul 2018, 19:25

Some of my favorites:

Steeleye Span – Parcel of Rogues
King Crimson – Larks tongues in Aspic
Gram Parsons -- GP
We All Together – s/t
Hawkwind – Space Ritual
Badfinger – Ass
Curved Air – Air Cut
Toots & the Maytals – Funky Kingston

And yeah, I do like 'Dark Side of the Moon' 'Goats Head Soup' and 'Band on the Run.'

Not much for me here, I guess there could be some krautrock I'm missing, and no doubt Dayodead will tell me about things I own that I've not listed :-)

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
Steeleye Span - Parcel of Rogues
Gary Higgins - Red Hash
NEU! - NEU! 2
Tom Rapp / Pearls Before Swine - Sunforest
Iggy and The Stooges - Raw Power
John Martyn - Solid Air

Kraftwerk - Ralf and Florian
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

My top 10 would list usual suspects like Eno, Sly, Can, Roxy, Stevie, Judee Sill etc but I don’t think anyone has mentioned these yet:

James Brown - The Payback (maybe his best?)
Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall.
Fela Kuti - Afrodisiac or Gentleman, both ‘73.
Bert Jansch - Moonshine (though ‘74’s LA Turnaround is probably better).
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Burnin’.
OST - The Harder They Come with Jimmy Cliff etc.
OST - The Wicker Man.
Lee Scratch Perry & the Upsetters - Blackboard Jungle Dub.
Edu Lobo - Missa Breve.
Coloured Balls - Ball Power.
Betty Davis - Self-titled.
Joao Gilberto- Self-titled
Herbie Hancock- Big year for HH recording three great LPs: Headhunters, Thrust (maybe released ‘74?) and my favourite, Sextant.
Townes Van Zandt - Live at the Old Quarter (recorded ‘73, released ‘77).
Tom Jobim - Jobim.
Kevin Ayers - Bananamour.

Oh, damn! One of my very favorite Brazilian albums. Thanks for the reminder!

Funnily enough, I heard this (part of it, anyway) for the first time today! I couldn't recall ever having even seen the cover before.

Yeah it’s a top 10 inclusion for me too.
Just realised you listed JB’s The Payback too, I didn’t notice that before so unnecessarily added it to mine.

A friend gave me his old vinyl copy of Moonshine last year, I’d never heard it before...its good bits are very good indeed, right up there with his best like Rosemary Lane and Birthday Blues.
