But I don't understand what you're disagreeing with. What did I say there that was wrong in your view?

Oh, just using language in an attempt to justify the existence of this pap. But I suppose that's what we do here.

There are far more offensive records that Miss You by the Rolling Stones to get upset about. Good grief , I despair at half the stuff that gets rational debate here. People seriously discussing the attributes of utter silage like Dexys Midnight Runners, and Paul Weller's solo career. In that sort of company, this is a masterpiece. Of course it isn't a masterpiece, but it is a great example of how the Stones remained relevant for so long. It was bang on the money for a disco 12" single, In much the same as Rod's " Do you think I'm sexy" was. It isn't a life changing five minutes, but it is a record I am always pleased to hear. Coan's cod outrage at its existence merely convinces me that these shores are the last place he should be summering, and it is time he was shivering in basement in Bulgaria once again. For all of our mental well being.

Actually I think a shivering basement in Bulgaria would be more agreeable than most of the litter-strewn pigeon-infested pisshead-mobbed rotten shitholes that make up most of the UK!

Much as I think it's a fairly inoccuous tune, I actually like it and always have. It's the last Rolling Stones single I bought, I'm pretty much sure of that.

As The Bear said, there are many many Stones single before, during and after that deserve to be damned before "Miss You".

As a kid in the late 70s, I remember playing in among some halfbuilt houses that were being hastily erected in a insta-slum development in South Hedland, a town that, while not exactly the arsehole of the earth, was more a fleck of crap not wiped properly from the arsehole. One of the tradesmen throwing together the dogboxes had a radio playing loudly and "Emotional Rescue" came on.

It was the first time I ever heard it and I was momentarily distracted from my idle vandalism. Jagger's voice in the 1970s sun, his falsetto cutting through the disenabling heat and the dirty shabbiness of my Pilbara home, well, it was genuinely weird.

Weird and kind of beautiful.

All that gubbins about white chargers and riding to rescue is a bit like the Puerto Rican girls bit in Miss You. They are stamped out with pretty similar cookie cutters, those two tunes.

And they're both great. The last gasp of some fuckin chancers who more than occasionally fluked a groove and a vibe.
Good.

A meh for me — decent radio fodder for 1978, but as far from a classic song as anything by Pablo Cruise. Light years better than Start Me Up, though.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not really a Stones Fan. They had a nice 7-8 year run, but I dislike them as much as Journey or Foreigner for their output since Watergate.

Great single from a so-so album.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

"Miss You"
"Hot Stuff"
"Dance" (parts 1 &2)
"Emotional Rescue"
"Worried About You"

Great fish-out-of-water comedy. Love it all to bits. The full 12" version of "Miss You" is even better. MORE!
But somehow when you smile, I can brave bad weather.

it bugged the hell out of me when it was new. it just seemed so... mercenary. like Mick wanted to be cock of the walk at Studio 54 or something. I'll tell you though, the harp gets me. it's gives the track (and much of that album) a feel that I really enjoy. it's not one of my favorites from the album but it does end up in the bottomless playlist now and again.
I am not a robot.
