I will say I find it weird to watch Jagger, for example, try to be "down" with whatever underground movement is going on near his Manhattan home (that his driver probably tells him about - I can't imagine he's doing as much late night clubbing as he used to), but I don't think Macca really gives a fuck. I find it much easier to be laissez-faire toward someone who doesn't particularly seem to be seeking my approval.

Coan wants the old rockers to all be dead.

Just give it like five years, man, and they'll mostly comply.

He probably supports separating children from all musicians older than 30, even as they scream and cry for their rock and roll heroes to make new albums.

:)

I just grew up with the idea that nobody over 40 should be involved in this business. It's shameful the way some of these cunts carry on. Why don't they retire?

But this is definitely a UK/US thing, and as I'm the only Brit voice here, I really can't be fucked trying to score points against a pretty articulate but blandly non-discerning US crowd.

The only known musician cool enough to walk away from record making at 43 was...

Good on him.
For all the obituaries we have for the great musicians who die way too early, we don't seem to respect the musical heroes keeping themselves occupied and young by still playing music.

I watched the Glen Campbell-documentary last night and I really got the chills seeing the man battle with his mind while still finding the strength to keep himself occupied making/playing music. The same chills I felt when I saw Warren Zevon play on a TV-show knowing his death was nearby. Slam the old coots of the Stones for touring incessantly and cashing in, I am fucking impressed with that type of stamina. And Macca doing music warms the cockles of my heart. Search on, man!

BTW, I liked the songs, the up-tempo track better than the ballad which had a pretty lame lyric.

I don't have a problem with older rockers rocking out but keep it real you know?

Sing about your weak bladder or some shit.

Certain songwriters still with us (Ray Davies, Randy Newman, Dylan) were pretty much already old men in their 20s.

To me it depends on the artist and the subject they're taking on. Macca sounds pretty silly singing "she was just 17/if you know what I mean," but of course we all know the song and get that it's not from his current perspective. But in a new song it'd be pretty gross.

I don't get how Coan complains about shit like this but is OK with Iggy jumping around like a teenager with his shirt off.

I'm not OK with that, really. I don't mind it, but it IS kind of silly.

I just think it's a shame the way most BCBers these days are accepting of everything mainstream/successful. It's terribly dull.

Thank fuck we have the mildly subversive Rayge (and G and Goat Boy and a couple of others) to prevent every thread becoming a cocksucking headnodding consensus.

They just like the shit you like! (OK, maybe Rayge not so much. But you've been saying the same thing since 2003!)
