Live Cream, Grande Ballroom, 1967

Better than any live Cream I've heard. Worthy of live Hendrix.

I'll have to check that out. I've always been disappointed by the live Cream that's been released.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

The new Clapton best of, Life in 12 Bars has an alternate live Spoonful from 1968, its pretty damn good - 17 minutes as you'd expect, which does potentially suggest there are some decent live tracks to add to a Wheels of Fire super deluxe box.

This 1967 show might give some extras to a Disreali Gears SDE. Guess they're boot rather than professional recordings.

I found this on my usual BT site for rock gigs. Thanks for the tip, it sounds quite interesting indeed. Here are some liner notes on the recording:

Notes from the Remastered version of this show that was part of The Cream Digitally Remastered Bootlegs set:
This show was originally recorded by Jim McCarty, an ex-Detroit Wheels guitarist (a copy was provided to Tim Bogert when they were in Cactus), on reel to reel (probably a Revox), mostly at 7.5 ips. With Cream's and promoter Russ Gibb's ok, he tapped the PA for the left channel and used a mike (onstage) on the right that was directed at the guitar stacks. The left channel thus picks up all the vocals' mikes: Jack's - stage left, spare - around front center on drums, Ginger's announcement over left shoulder (hi-hat, snare prominent), Eric's - right front close to drums. Vocals are thus clear and prominent as is the guitar, which is nicely picked up by the right channel mike (with some overload at times) and further reinforced by the PA mikes into the left. The cymbals and snare are prominent (left and some right) but bass bottom end is very lacking because of the standard bass roll-off of the vocals' mikes.

While I was at it I spotted this too:

Cream - Western Tour '68 (2017) [FLAC]
This is a unique compilation of entirely unreleased performances recorded for the "Goodbye" LP. It is the same material as the bootleg box set "The Last Goodbye" but it is NOT sourced from that set. You will notice that the sound quality is better here and there are no digital errors.

As for the material, this is as close to a "Live Cream Vol. 3" as we are likely to ever get as these are the only remaining releaseable tracks from these shows. These are also the same rough mixes that the record label has, as the multi-tracks no longer exist. So enjoy!
==================

Cream "Western Tour '68"

01 White Room (1968-10-20 San Diego)
02 Politician (1968-10-20 San Diego)
03 I'm So Glad (1968-10-20 San Diego)
04 Sitting On Top Of The World (1968-10-20 San Diego)
05 Sunshine Of Your Love (1968-10-04 Oakland)
06 Crossroads (1968-10-20 San Diego)
07 Traintime (1968-10-19 Inglewood)
08 Toad (1968-10-19 Inglewood)
09 Spoonful (1968-10-19 Inglewood)

Excellent Stereo Soundboard Quality!

I dl'd The Last Goodbye a while back and the sound was stunning (on three of the four discs, anyway), but a couple of tracks were indeed glitchy.

I don't have that Last Goodbye set to compare but, this one does really sound good, the occasional half-assed vocal from Bruce notwithstanding. It does sound like a high res copy of the master mix for an official live album - as good as bootlegs ever get.

Let me know if you have a tickly throat.

I'm listening to that Grande Ballroom show from 67 and it really is killer - some of the most exciting playing of Baker's I've ever heard.
