It reminds me of driving along on a summer day with the windows down. Ambience abounding.

And since reading his story, it makes me sad.

Nice.

By the way, that may be the longest post you've ever made om here! :)

Interesting... it's always been a "night song" to me, regardless of what time of day I hear it.

Me too

Coincidentally, I walked into Baker St tube station last night and there was a busker at the top of the escalators to the Jubilee line playing it.
Horribly.
And utterly cynically.
And I *still* enjoyed it.

It's OK - way too long, and it gets by mostly on atmosphere. There's an undeniable mood to the thing. But that's what you get with James Dean posters and cafes that play Wynton Marsalis and it's all pretty shallow.

Another one for fans of Top Gear.

Can we talk about Pere Ubu now? :)

I kind of agree with this. It is a great arrangement and sax solo, but it's never been a song that's moved me or that I really needed to hear, especially as it used to be really overplayed at one stage. 'Night Owl, 'Stuck in the Middle With You' and 'Get It Right' are all better for my money.

I'm going with great here. Even his album City to City is above average for that late-70s pop rock thing.

It's great, and I never seem to tire of hearing it. A nice little earner for him to by all accounts and he probably never bettered it though Get It Right Next Time runs it pretty close.

I prefer the follow up album Nightowl to City to City

Me three. Many of his songs have a night time ambience. Get It Right Next Time and As Wise as a Serpent are two that spring to mind. Oh and Night Owl of course.

It’s SO CLOSE to being great.

Love the song. Love the production during the sung parts. Can’t stand the overwrought guitar and parts.
