Joni's great, but she didn't create a template. And no, she didn't create any template for women musicians or songwriters or whatever genre-dependent credit you want to give her. She'd be offended by the very idea, I suspect.

Isn’t it true, Mr. G., that you have never actually ridden along in your automobile!?

There you go again, setting out things that no one is saying to tear them down. It’s almost like Trump! “Lots of people are saying ...”

Straw brown eyed handsome man.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

sure, it's easy to make the case for Chuck. the black, 30 year old man singing about hot white teenage girls to hot white teenage girls. what's more rock and roll than that?

Still, Joni's initial run of l.p's up to and including "mingus" is quite a goddam body of work. And while 'hatz & Joni herself might not see those she inspired - those she inspired certainly lavish her with praise.

Chuck is as close to a Mount Rushmore that rock and roll has. What did it take to make him become the bitter untrusting man in that Taylor Hackford movie? He got screwed in more ways than one. maybe that's why he seemed to be in in for the simolians from pretty early on. Yeah, his template, his use of showmanship & iambic pentameter - he'll influence people as long as people pick up guitars to show off. Joni will continue to influence people to pick up guitars to express their feelings.

both are noble callings. Footy.

Chuck was IMPORTANT and SEMINAL and he can be a lot of fun, but other people did rock better later on. Joni offers more.

It was a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well
You could see that Pierre did truly love the mademoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "it goes to show you never can tell"

They furnished off an apartment with a 2-room Roebuck sale
The coolerator was crammed with TV dinners and ginger ale,
But when Pierre found work, the little money comin' worked out well
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "it goes to show you never can tell"

They had a hi-fi phono, boy, did they let it blast
700 little records, all rock, rhythm and jazz
But when the sun went down, the rapid tempo of the music fell
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "it goes to show you never can tell"

They bought a souped-up jitney, was a cherry red '53
And drove it down to Orleans to celebrate their anniversary
It was there where Pierre was wedded to the lovely mademoiselle
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "it goes to show you never can tell"

They had a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well
You could see that Pierre did truly love the mademoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "it goes to show you never can tell"

I’m surprised he didn’t fit Frère Jacques in there.
