Only 28?

I think the order you put them in is pretty accurate.

I love these threads!

In order of preference within the groups, like last time (had to change some of the groupings):

VERY important to me - don't love it all by a longshot, but the best stuff moves me as much as anything

Kevin Ayers
Phil Spector
Aretha Franklin
Carole King

Great at their best, but too much non-peak stuff to be truly transcendent

Randy Newman
Roky Erickson
Ray Manzarek (Would be at the level above if not for incessant myth-making for the last 40+ years of his life...)
Ginger Baker (part of something great multiple times, but man, could he ever overplay)
Diana Ross
Rod Stewart
Joe Strummer
Todd Rundgren
Sky Saxon
Debbie Harry
Stevie Nicks

Positive feelings toward, but don't have a strong desire to spend a lot of time with

Wilson Pickett
Fats Domino
Noddy Holder
Billy Fury
Ian Curtis
Johnny Thunders
Annie Lennox
Lydia Lunch

Occasional moments, but can do without for the most part

Adam Ant
Bob Mould
Roger Waters (perfectly good bass player - as a songwriter can fuck off entirely)

Meh, doesn't do much for me one way or another

Alan Vega

Who?

Anyone who thinks BCB represents the outside, music-loving world as a whole might have different ideas when they see Mr. Ayers topping three separate lists...

Gods. And Alan Vega
Ian Curtis
Alan Vega

I literally quite like some thing by
Fats Domino
Noddy Holder
Aretha Franklin
Lydia Lunch
Wilson Pickett
Kevin Ayers
Adam Ant
Debbie Harry

I have absolutely no interest in
Stevie Nicks
Joe Strummer
Sky Saxon
Roger Waters
Carole King
Johnny Thunders
Randy Newman
Todd Rundgren
Diana Ross
Ray Manzarek
Billy Fury
Ginger Baker
James Murphy
Roky Erickson
Phil Spector
Annie Lennox
Bob Mould

I would shake my fist and mutter under my breath at
Rod Stewart

Annie Lennox is a difficult one, I don't mind some Eurythmics, but the weight of her solo material is dragging her down into almost actively disliking.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Roky Erickson
Alan Vega
Sky Saxon
Noddy Holder
Fats Domino

have given me quite a bit of pleasure

Ian Curtis
Todd Rundgren
Rod Stewart
Johnny Thunders
Wilson Pickett
Ray Manzarek
Joe Strummer

the odd thrill, the occasional decent song - mostly 'other people's shit'

Kevin Ayers
Debbie Harry
Diana Ross
Ginger Baker
Phil Spector
Carole King
Aretha Franklin

not especially interested but not against them either

Adam Ant
Randy Newman
Lydia Lunch
Billy Fury
Bob Mould
Stevie Nicks
James Murphy

snakes

Annie Lennox
Roger Waters

I can honestly say Phil Spector records have thrilled and moved me maybe more than anything else. Ever.

I know, I know.

I think of him (and Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan and - sometimes - Brian Wilson) as people who achieved a fuck of a lot, you know? people who are rightly highly-respected and so on, but who don't do a whole lot for me.

That's not to say there isn't some stuff I get a kick out of.

would still choose to listen to:
Johnny Thunders
Roky Erickson
Noddy Holder
Bob Mould
Sky Saxon
Wilson Pickett

of personal historical interest, still kindly disposed toward:
Ian Curtis
Alan Vega
Joe Strummer
Debbie Harry

never a personal interest, kindly disposed toward nonetheless:
Aretha Franklin
Carole King
Diana Ross
Fats Domino
Phil Spector

of personal historical interest, no longer very kindly disposed toward:
Ray Manzarek
Adam Ant (barely liked him very briefly)

don't dislike enough to avoid:
Rod Stewart (except for the obvious)
James Murphy
Lydia Lunch

willing to take other people's word for it:
Randy Newman
Todd Rundgren
Kevin Ayers
Billy Fury

actively dislike:
Stevie Nicks
Roger Waters
Ginger Baker
Annie Lennox

Debbie Harry really isn't much of a singer. If she wasn't "BCB's teenage crush" she wouldn't be on this list at all.
