Very sad news for his fans.
He approached me in a bar once, said he liked my shirt or something and we chatted. Sweet guy and a great frontman. Seemed to have some substance abuse issues, perhaps, so I can't say I'm astonished to hear this.

They were a great band, them, The Make Up, Blonde Redhead all prefigured the horrors that came later such as fencing ski-punks The Strokes and their designer 'grit'.
