Yeah, that was my favorite as well.

I liked em all but the ones with extended saxophone are always going to be a few notches lower for me.

Great stuff, Matt!

I love surf music. I've thought about doing a BCB MP3 project of '60s surf songs for years. Maybe 150 or so songs, but I'm not sure there's enough interest. After awhile they all begin to sound the same, but that's no different than punk, metal, garage, rockabilly, reggae, etc.

That's actually a great collection. I've said before here that all one really needs for a proper introduction to surf is Cowabunga, Surf-Age Nuggets, the Jan & Dean Complete Liberty Singles, and whatever Beach Boys floats your boat.

The above Sentinels, Tornadoes, Fireballs & Belairs tracks are all on the excellent 26 track 2007 The Birth of Surf compilation on Ace.

A little goes a long way with this stuff.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Wish I had a copy, but in the early ‘70s, I wrote an article for “Coast” magazine on what surfers really listened to — at least before the breakthrough of “surf” music as in this thread. The answer, not surprisingly if you listen to early Beach Boys, Dick Dale, etc., was r&b.

As part of my research, I interviewed a 14-year-old Valley girl/surf bunny recommended to me by a friend, who was editor of a surf magazine. Then, she was just a kid on the phone. A few later, she changed her last name from “Fuchs” to “Fox,” and played bass for the Runaways.

Our mutual fb friend, Domenic Priore, is a surf expert. He'll tell you all you'd like to know.

And Vic Snazell-Sprey, I'll send you an MP3 disc of all my fav surf songs if you'd like.

This was long before I knew Domenick. Today, I'd talk with him, Randy Nauert (also a FB friend; the Challengers' drummer) and a whole bunch of folks.

As long as you're running off Surf CDs...

How about some modern surf bands?

Bambi Molesters

Satan's Pilgrims

The Space Cossacks

The Surfrajettes

Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?
