According to Wikipedia this is their first album to feature lush string arrangements - they are really adding to the songs.

Is the live album the one to try next?

The Official Bootleg one or the BBC box?
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I saw them in San Antonio a year or two ago. Phil sounded amazing on "Cherry" Definitely still worth seeing if they come 'round.

'Strangers in the Night' is one of the top live albums recorded by any rock band.

My favorite of their studio albums is 'Obsession.'

Yes. Id recommend these to start:

Strangers In The Night
Obsession (next album after Lights Out and home to my favorite barn-burning Schenker solo on Hot 'n' Ready, also has several songs with strings)
The Wild The Willing And The Innocent (no Schenker on this one, but Paul Chapman is absolutely brilliant and this is one of their best albums)
Walk On Water (reunion album with Schenker from the 90's - hangs with their best albums and Schenker is absolutely jaw-dropping all over it, just a massive album - saw them on this tour and it was just incomprehensibly amazing).

After that if you want to dig deeper...

Phenomenon
Force It
No Heavy Petting
No Place To Run
Mechanix
Making Contact

Avoid anything before Phenomenon and most of what's after Walk On Water. And a couple in between.
Pontificating incorrigibly since birth.

Other than the aforementioned live album I would go for no heavy petting and/or force it

the classic run all have splendiferousnesses... obsession, phenomenon, etc... (we did force it before, didn't we, c?) but i will back up reap's call for the wild, the willing and the innocent. schenkless, yes, but fantastic. running piano themes and variations, i love it.
