In my chromesthetic mind Lou always invokes Monkeyshit Brown.

I was willing to think you might have some highly developed synaesthetic sense or perfect pitch however a quick google reveals It starts on a G.

Does the song have a specific meaning? I've never quite understood it. It seems to be thoughts upon watching a NASA launch on TV, though what Harry, Mark, and John have to do with it, I have never known. Am I missing a specific interpretation?

Love it to bits. I'm trying to remember when I bought the album - I think it was when I was a student in Montreal, living on my own, but I do remember loving that song right from the get-go.

And the overtones (if that's the right word, T5D?). The chord if F has no open strings whereas the chord of G has 3 and the G string us still open on the A7. I think these kinds of things make a difference.

Sure, there’s a difference between ‘open’ chords and barre chords and different inversions on guitar but it’s a
piano chord in this instance isn’t it?

I'm probably not the only person here who first heard it on this:

It's the opening track, and by some distance the best thing there.

Transformer is probably his best solo album, but it does suffer from some bad lyrics and a few rote numbers (Wagon Wheel, Hanging Around come to mind).

Satellite of Love is pretty glorious though.

It's rubbish. A throwaway novelty song knocked out in two minutes just to take the piss out of Bowie. Lou would be shitting himself laughing that anyone is taking it seriously.

He should have written it in Dm
It's the saddest of all keys. I don;t know why but it makes people weep. Instantly.

It is a decent track, but not the best thing on transformer or that Lou ever did (which is intro/sweet jane on rock 'n' roll animal).

Yep cassette. Although I do love Coney Island Baby, the last track.

Lou had absolutely nothing to do with that intro.

Lou had absolutely nothing to do with that intro.

Indeed, he wasn't even there (you can hear the applause when he walks on at 3:30, as the song proper gets underway).

But it's got his name on it, I guess.

Someone on here called it "proggy nonsense" once. I had to laugh because it's kind of true.

He's said in interviews that he doesn't even like that intro. Too much guitar, I guess.

I've always enjoyed it.

Of course, it's good.

Same reason you don't enjoy it.

Yes indeed, but you can't really divorce the two, so you can call the combination a collaboration if yiu like - but it is still his best.

The song's good but it's part of why (IMO) people overrate Transformer. It's not as good as Berlin, but it does have the Bowie/Ronson thing and has a great front cover.
