Recommend your "hidden gem" albums for the 1990's

Postby pcqgod » 07 May 2018, 19:21

Post as many as you'd like, whether a major label flop or some obscure release by an obscure band from your obscure hometown.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

All of my friends’ albums were good. Better than the stuff people still talk about.

All on the fairly obscure, but not obviously beyond the tastes of BCB side of things:

Crescent - Now
Radial Spangle - Ice Cream Headache, Syrup Macrame
Movietone - Movietone
Lake of Dracula - Lake of Dracula
Solex - Solex vs the Hitmeister
Gridlock - Further
Thule - 321 Norma 2
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Silver Jews - The Natural Bridge
The second Elliott Smith and the final Heatmiser (such a giant, odd that he isn’t BCB mentioned much more)
Now the alt-Country shite has blown over don’t the Uncle Tupelo records stand out?

Mostly as evidence of how record critics once wielded great power.

I never warmed to that one myself (despite repeated efforts), but I do consider the preceding run of music leading up (Supersonic Storybook, Stull, Saturation) incredibly special.

It’d make a very good Stull-sized EP.
