'Words' should have been banned by the Geneva Convention as soon as it was released. It is an appalling crime on every level.

The other 2 are pretty bad, but 'Living on Video' is almost at a level of bad that can make me chuckle. It is such a steaming hot mess, it almost comes out the other side into "It's ok for a laugh" territory. Almost.

jeez, I never heard (of) any of these, or I've blanked them out of my memory.

I'll come back and listen to them when I'm feeling stronger; just the pics on the youtube links are enough to inspire dread and daunt.

I'd never heard "Words" before, thank christ. What a mess. Isn't he clever, writing a song about how difficult it is to write a song? Genius!

I don't hate the other two, and actually have a tiny bit of time for 'Break My Stride'. 'Living on Video' has always been a bit of a joke, hasn't it?

A real Sophie's choice.

I voted for Trans X - as the one "brand new to me" choice, it allowed me to muster some fresh hate that I can't really sustain for the "yep, still wretched" likes of Wilder and David.

The use of video clips (THAT'S Matthew Wilder!??!) definitely emphasizes the shared attribute of "unlikely pop star".

I hate Break My Stride. More than Coan detests Nick Drake.

Christ, I'd successfully managed to forget all these, now you dredge them up again. What is wrong with you? :x

I also have a little time for "Break My Stride", because the Unique II dated dance cover version broke when I was in high school and I liked that version

"Break My Stride" is in a different league to the other two, it's very typical of its time, and is y'know, fairly catchy.

The other two are unmitigated disasters.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I think it helps that, undeniably, Matthew Wilder is a good looking guy. A jaunty song that always puts a smile on my face. A strong message.

Ian ‘Mac’ McCullough on keys as well.

Break-a My Stride was one of the songs our boss would put on the jukebox every night when it was time to sweep and mop the ice cream store. On the one hand I associate it with mopping and teen angst, on the other hand I associate it with getting off work. I'd call it a draw.

I don't care about the other two.

Well, I didn't recognize, or get to the end of any of them.
They were just mediocre, couldn't even whip up any disdain for them, sorry. It must have been terrible being a kid in the ’80s – all that and Thatcher too.

The worst thing about being a kid in the 80s was that it wasn’t until 1990, via the anniversary of Lennon's death, that you were able to listen to The Beatles :(

Otherwise it was fucking fantastic, best pop music (80-83), best alternative music (83-85).

Great days.
