Were Orange Juice that good?

The Associates were such a strong flavour that I don't revisit them that often but they really had something thrillingly strange and exotic going on at their best.
The beta Band had some real highs even if they were a bit patchy.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I remember hearing about the Beta Band when they blew up in the early (?) oughts, but they completely passed me by even though I had friends that were into them. What's the best thing they did?

There's a whole lot of "good but not great" there.
Of the ones here, probably JAMC. But I do like some Associates, B&S, OJ, and BB a great deal. Just not enough of it, or too much meh sharing time.
I like what Mogwai I've heard, but don't know if they fall prey to the same inconsistency as the others. But I guess they're more American-sounding than the rest here.

I just started getting into JAMC last year - they're a lot of fun! Nice to have something "new" to get into, at least new to me

Think this is their best-known (certainly the only one that stuck for me):

CHOOSE ONE!
Or you could have just given us the original list with a couple of additions, because I’d definitely take Life Without Buildings or Josef K over the Scream or Beta Band. Josef K were pretty significant among that first crop of bands.
