Possible Gong box set are coming....
From the Gong thread over at progressive ears.
Sadly there are no link to the actuall source...but looks promising
"To revive this thread, which faded out earlier this year, it seems like work has finally begun on some archive Gong releases. The story so far is: when Charly released The Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy in 2015 the former members of Gong requested nobody buy it as they would earn nothing from the Charly set. Instead, they said, there would be an official release from them in the near future. As some suspected, this never happened; partly, I reckon, because Steve Hillage, former Gong guitarist, then released his 22-CD box set Searching for the Spark in late 2016.
Now, however, it looks like things are beginning to happen. In reply to a question (mid-April) about archive releases, Jonny Greene, of Gong Appreciation Society fame, writes: ‘We have HHH&G (Howlett, Hillage, Heyworth and Greene) working on it - right now.’ For the uninitiated, Mike Howlett is Gong’s former bassist and Simon Heyworth was the engineer for Virgin Records when Angel’s Egg and You were recorded back in the early 1970s. Jonny Greene was also involved in the Hillage box set, which by all accounts is quite a marvellous thing to behold. In an earlier post by Jonny (written in January 2018), again in reply to a question about what releases to expect this year, he wrote: ‘What to expect in 2018? With continuing fair winds most probably this:-
A 4LP box-set with booklet
A 3CD/1DVD ear-book set.
A 2CD set with a limited single LP highlights version
A 15 CD Boxset with book and possibly stuff...
...and then 2019 is Gong's 50th anniversary...’
Make of it what you will. It all sound very promising. "

Re: Possible Gong box set are coming....
I assume Charley's right to release Gong albums but not pay royalties to Hillage etc stems from some earlier contract that Daevid signed with Byg (one of the Byg owners later founded Charley) and this gave Charley rights to any recordings that Daevid made during his time with Gong.
I can’t help thinking that the “imminent” Teapot Trilogy set tat Hillage etc spoke about at the time of the Charley box was just a red herring to dissuade people from buying the Charley version.

Well, if Howlett, Hillage, Heyworth and Greene are working on it, we could be in for a treat.
Reassuring that Heyworth is involved!

It's a very beautiful artifact I don't regret buying.
And although limited to 2500 copies, it seems to be still available.

22 CDs and two hundred quid from Amazon UK.
Too much money and too much music.
I can’t ever contemplate buying these massive boxes irrespective of the artiste

Sorry. I'm with Carlsson. It's a preposterous proposition.

Well, it depends on who the artist is:
I regret not doing it for Sandy Denny and John Martyn.
But I don't find it hard, for instance, resisting this.

On the other hand, I also bought the warts'n'all sets by Focus and Shocking Blue, simply because they were rather inexpensive.
I'm insatiable.

Re: Possible Gong box set are coming....
22 CDs of Steve Hillage does seem somewhat excessive, a handful of his albums is more than enough for me. That Wishbone Ash set is even more ludicrous, just one of their albums is all I need
Not that I’m a stranger to forking out for fancy box sets. The Floyd one in particular was well worth it and has been played a lot. I’ll be passing on any Gong one though.

Re: Possible Gong box set are coming....
more news, sort of
https://www.planetgong.co.uk/outland/fo ... 5&start=20
"The Virgin Gong Years collection will not be the same scale as the 'Searching For The Spark' box-set - and therefore not the same price.
The format Universal are wedded to is similar to their Alex Harvey 'Last of The Teenage Idols' slipped-cased/box-set/collection. Look that up if you want to get an idea.
Not sure what the final size of the Gong affair will be - 14 to 16 discs. It depends how it all jigsaws together. I'm gathering the images from the archives and hopefully conjuring up the right words to tell the Virgin Gong tale in 60 x 9.5 inch perfectly formed pages - well that's the aim. May I be guided by daevid and Gilli...
The aim is an Autumn release but these 'super-tanker' companies sometimes move glacially, so there is a possibility that it ends up being released next Spring."

Re: Possible Gong box set are coming....
Nothing of interest to say about the music, which is probably no surprise.
I just think that "Possible Gong" would be a great name for a band - it seems to open up a world of playful percussion.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.
