I love this place. I'm reading your thread and can even buy the "Anything else is madness," line, and then you cherrypick the Lovin' Spoonful out of that group as honorable mention. They're
all pretty much honorable mention depending on personal taste.
Of course you have Coan's views, which throws it all outta whack.

I think you can change your vote, Ray.

I suppose we should be grateful that anyone is starting any thread on YY these days.

Thanks. Clearly, you're feeling better today. You're back to your old self!

I will be, once we set up a separate prog section.
Oh, and another one for these ridiculous 'WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?' threads.

He's been very angry these last few days.
I do hope he's ok. Maybe he's just run out of biscuits

For
Ascension and
Meditation? Yeah, I figured not enough BCBers knew those albums though. Just like Phil Ochs, The Association, Small Faces (though I probably should've included them), Everly Bros, Wilson Pickett, Hollies, etc.
For those two, yes. I don't blame you for leaving him out or anyone else since you only have a limited number of slots anyways but I would all the same say that both of those albums are superb and mark him handily as the best act of 1966 for me, arguably with Beach Boys following up.

The Velvet Underground should be in contention if only MGM had released the debut album on time (problems with the peelable banana cover delayed the release to March ‘67).

Releasing
Ascension and
Meditations is definitely one hell of a good year.

A shame to see Matt's thread derailed by the usual suspects, but that's just to be BCB expected these days.
Perhaps a thread without the best of the best might have appeased the wrist wringers?
But even then, it seems Simon & Garfunkel would beat Love & 13th Floor Elevators. Poor old Coan
.
