Rate the song: Girl You Need A Change Of Mind
I’ve been playing the shee-it out of this over the last month. If you get over the, er, “dated” lyrics, the extended groove of the coda is fantastic: hypnotic, effortless and at the moment, I can’t get enough of it.
Any takers or dissenters?

I like it, but it's no Keep On Truckin'.

Which in turn is no 'My People Hold On'
so great
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Great song. Its charms are more subtle than 'Keep On Truckin', but i play 'Girl' more these days. The arrangements, singing and playing are peak Motown for me, and i love it just as much as 'My People Hold On'.

It's a shame more people aren't getting into this track. It's just brilliant.

I smell a conspiracy.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

It doesn't have the popular currency of 'Keep On Truckin', but it is a musical tour de force.
Not sure who the piano player was for the session - i must dig out my copy and check my liner notes, it probably says it as the notes for the EK solo albums collection were excellent - but whoever it was should've got triple-time. The piano playing, especially after the verses, is simply insane. And the production is incredible - the phasing of the vocals, the arrangements on the horns and percussion, EVERYTHING.
I put it on a mix for our resident Fish a couple of months back, and even he grudgingly enjoyed it! How much more of a ringing endorsement do you need?!

Worth checking out his albums?

The first 2, absolutely. After that it gets sketchier.

This is great!
There's a hell of a momentum there that I feel lucky to get caught up in.

Yeah, it gets up a real momentum doesn't it! The instumetal sections in the second part of it are incredibly vital and energetic.

That’s it. The song is great anyway but that part of it really takes it onto another, almost ecstatic level. It’s very different in many ways but it reminds me a bit of Isaac Hayes’ Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquwdalymistic in that regard.

I finally remembered to do this today, and found that for 'Girl...' and most of the other tracks on People... Hold On, Kendricks was backed by a stomping band out of D.C. named The Young Senators. A little info on them here.
