Ultimately it is a pretty significant piece of news for anyone who is even vaguely a fan of Fleetwood Mac.
Quite funny listening to Christine McVie's desert island discs a couple of weeks ago you'd assume everything was pretty perfect and she was gearing up for the new tour with all her best friends after all her years in semi-retirement.

I guess so. It's just that LB has left and come back before, and their membership has been such a soap opera for so many years without much great music to back it up. I like them. I used to love them. Now I can't listen to them past Bob Welch.

The choice of replacements is interesting, I'll give them that.

The KISS reference was meant to be the coup de grace knowing how much you like them.

I'd like to hear Jumper K's input on this tectonic shift in popular music.

Well, presumably he's not much older than the rest of Fleetwood Mac so not sure why the age matters. A Mac with Green in the fold is probably the only way I'd seriously consider seeing them. It would likely be a very weird dynamic, but I'd certainly be curious to see how it would work. I've seen Green a couple of times and he's certainly still a very good guitarist.

Considering his history I can’t imagine him touring arenas with this incarnation

Stop being so ageist John, what about the old blues guys like Blind Buffalo Mississippi ? He's better than ever at 103! He won't let deafness and incontinence stop him.

Americans love to see old people get on stage and rock.

Oh absolutely - it's a bit as if Syd Barrett had rejoined Pink Floyd at some point (which is probably more likely now that he's dead than at any point before then).

Both times I've seen Green he looked very fragile (the first time he got knocked on the head by his own mic and got lost on stage) but he really seemed to enjoy it. Mainly, I'd just love to hear some songs from those first couple of albums.

I don't understand why it matters for Peter Green specifically, if Fleetwood Mac themselves, who are all roughly the same age, are still doing their thing. Then whether or not they, or any/all of the old rock dinosaurs from the 60s or 70s, should still be doing their thing at this age, is a different question.

As much as I like Neil Finn, the only real interest I would have in FM these days would be to see a show with the classic 70's lineup playing their classic songs.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Well I mentioned Green specifically because that's who was being talked about, that's how conversation works!
But I could have said the same thing if the suggestion was that Jeff Beck or someone like that join the band. The idea that any of these people can turn back the clock and reignite the creative fires of thirty or forty years ago is absurd. I have no problem with them still playing if that's what they want to do, but it's just a form of entertainment, it has little to no artistic purpose and shouldn't be viewed through that prism.

But so it begs the question: you specifically singled out that Peter Green is too old for a reunited Fleetwood Mac, which in turn means that the rest of Fleetwood Mac, including new member Neil Finn, are not?

Either way, I don't think many or indeed any people who go to see these shows expect to see "creative fires". Two of my favourite shows were seeing Arthur Lee/Love and the reformed Stooges - I'm not sure much in the way of creativity was on display, but they were great concerts.

It's funny you say that. There's a venue here in the Bay Area called the Mountain Winery that puts on concerts during the summer. There is not one performer under 50 performing this summer. They're okay, I guess, I don't wanna see any, but they're all a bit long in the tooth.
