Almost 2 years since his passing.

This track came up on my i-pod as i was walking last night, and after not hearing it for quite a while it nearly melted my brain. That guitar sound, Lonnie's frenzied cries in the chorus, the deceptively simple perfection of a little soul-rock ballad done just right. I love it so much.

How about you - what do you think of it?

I guess as the resident nay-sayer, I can put my neck into the BCB-noose once more. The last of these kind of threads where I fought against the tide was that horrible nursery-rhyme by The Who, but this isn't at the same level, I can understand why someone might like this. But it's not my cup of tea, obviously, and to me, it sounds like the verses are just a bit of a nothing, a bit of dirgey filler, waiting for the impassioned vocal of the chorus. Without that chorus, it doesn't feel like there's much of a song there. It just doesn't feel like a cohesive whole to me.

Oh i'm sure you're not alone, Fishy. This type of tune is not everyone's cup of tea, and i'm guessing a lot of it comes down to that "bit of a nothing" you hear - the more simple bluesy rhythm that a lot of people find boring.

Dirgey Filler - good name for a folky singer-songwriter.

I just seem to play the live one most.

I bought Wham!, Memphis and some other singles - Lonnie on the Move is a belter - and loved them. What a guitarist; always coupled him with Travis Wammack, also a hit-maker in the early 1960s, but no-one else came close for speed and sonic invention on the guitar.
So why did you choose one with him (presumably) singing? It's an ordinary blues song and an ordinary voice, easily the least interesting thing I heard from him, so in all conscience I could not vote more than OK.

Because i think he puts in an absolutely stunning vocal performance on this song!
In general i think he has just a 'good' singing voice; 'Why?' though, at least for me, is one of those songs where the depth of emotions on display take it to a whole other level, beyond what the singer's apparent range or chops might suggest. And it does have a very tasty guitar break too.

I do love Wammack as well.
