Dio

Postby C » 18 Mar 2018, 18:20

Ronnie James Dio - what a great voice.

A robust contribution to Sabbath and of course Rainbow but he made many seminal albums leading his band.

Personnel changes - particularly lead guitar after the first few but what a catalogue

A truncated version to consider (2 votes)

Holy Diver (1983)
The Last in Line (1984)
Sacred Heart (1985)
Dream Evil (1987)
Lock Up the Wolves (1990)
Strange Highways (1993)

oooooof!

Holy Diver. The rest subscribe to the law of diminishing returns.

I like the one Enimem sampled for "Stan".
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Everyone's going to vote for the first two albums because that's all that most of us have heard.

Nah, got em all. And I am partial to Lock Up The Wolves, it would have been great to see how that version of the band developed with another album.

I've heard the first four albums..The Last in Line is the best...and besides, In the video for the title song, he helped the kid from the TV show 'Voyagers!', escape an unwarranted trip to Hell and the vampire Borg there...That has to count for something !... :D :D

I have a soft spot for Sacred Heart - it has some very strong tracks

The last Dio album to include guitarist Vivian Campbell before he was off to Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy et alia

Pretty much.

I like Dream Evil second best.

The Last in Line is very strong which I prefer.

Sacred Heart
is very robust too.

Lock up the Wolves as Frank mentions is very good featuring teenager Rowan Robertson (Robinson?) who, in places, brings a more modern metal feel (as opposed to what us old boys are used to - hard rock)
