In Hindsight, Bat Out Of Hell

It's brilliant, even if you think it's a guilty pleasure. I'd just class to listen to.

I haven’t played it in a long time, but of course it’s a classic album.

Great memories of seeing Meat do Bat Out Of Hell, and Paradise By The Dashboard Light On The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Right then which is the strongest track and which is the weakest?

Title probably is strongest, though you could make a case for five of them.

Weakest though surely is between all revved up and crying out loud. Right now i would listen to the former over the latter.

In the same boat as War of the Worlds. I know I shouldn't like it, but I do.

It’s kind of beyond discussion. It just...is.

I think You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth is one of the greatest pop records ever made.
To me it stands up with all the songs it pastiches/ pays tribute to

There is no weak song on the album.
My least favourite is probably Two out of Three or Paradise, but that is only through over playing them.

The piano ballads are the very heart and soul of the record.

Oh Matt , it astounds me that someone cannot get any enjoyment from an album that wears its heart and influences so proudly on it's ruffled front shirts cuffs.

It's nothing I'd ever choose to listen to, but you know, if it comes on in a pub, and I'm drunk or something, I'd probably sing along in stupid fashion (why not, it never stopped Meatloaf). I'm kinda glad it exists, but I wouldn't want to be seen in public with it.

I had an ex-girlfriend who thought the "On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?" bit was dead clever and sexy, and used to quote it all the time. I've never had my resolve concerning violence against women so sorely tested.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Horrible. But I always enjoy the clip from the Old Grey Whistle Test.

I voted shit(e).
you watch a video of the guy and he's busting a sweat like he's James Brown or something.
maybe if I liked the guy's voice... I will say this - the only hesitation to calling it shit is the gal that sings on his big song with him. if it comes on the radio and I don't change the dial - she is the reason.

I heard Todd Rundgren tell somebody on a podcast that producing "Bat out of Hell" is the main reason he can afford to live in Hawaii. I like TR and I like the show-offy production things like the baseball announcer but it's all down to Mr. Loaf for me. Never liked the guy.

 I like the song "eddie" the old german guy sings in "Rocky Horror" that's as close as it gets.

and another thing!
a lot of critics I used to read just absolutely creamed their pants over that Jim Steinman guy like he was some sort of mega-genius.
I don't get that whole thing at all.

I don’t think I’ve heard it, apart from the chorus of the title track and a couple of minutes of hideous noodling from another that I listened to when I found out Todd was involved.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
