That's even worse than Meatloaf. It replaces his humour with female hysterics. I'd regard that as one of the worst UK number ones ever..on a par with 'Lady in Red' and 'I just Called to Say I Loved You'.

And of course, I take some deep offense at seeing it lumped in with those two numbers - clearly a distinction that I could never reasonably ask any other person to make/see.

It's not you're thing, G.

I'm listening to it now and I've got a BCB semi.

Christ, nostalgia has a lot to answer for.

I, personally, wouldn't have been caught anywhere near it at the time, for whatever that may be worth.

I'd have a hard time parsing out (to you or myself) why I've decided that it"works", but I can absolutely rule out nostalgia.

I’m with JSJ. I could never stand it either, but in recent years it’s been responsible for quite a few goosebump moments

I was too young to really remember it when it first came out.

Some records just have the right moves and, shit, that record has some moves.

Those two and Bat Out of Hell is all I will ever need.

I'm totally cool with that.

Oh you have to have Celine Dion's magnificent "it's all coming back to me now" as well.

:D i would put it above total eclipse, actually.

There was an edition of the bat out of hell album which had dead ringer for love (the song) tacked on - even the record company realised the rest of meat's output was junk.

Worse than Ken Dodd's Tears, Englebert's Please Release Me, whatever that Rene and Renato shit was called, Joe Dolce's Shaddup Your Face, the entire recorded works of Ed Sheeran and even, gulp, Moo of Kintyre? :o :o  :o :o :?

Context is all. I'll not unhappily listen now to stuff I dismissed as embarrasing drivel back in my so loud days (clever wording, cheers) because it's removed from whatever bee was exercising in my bonnet back then, and I can appreciate what came out of it, and its place in developments I was not aware of at the tome.
Not Reg Rock of course, with it's let's-get-away-from-sex-drugs-and-rebellion-and-into-the-comforting-embrace-of-Nanny-and-the-nursery,-and-show-mummy-how-clever-we-are,-not-like-those-nasty-rock-boys vibe; that one's in the garderobe/oubliette for good. But all sorts of other things I only learned to appreciate in hindsight.

Bloody hell, take a good hard look at yourselves, you lot. 'Total Eclipse' and 'Bat Out Of Fucking Hell' get mentioned and half of you start jizzing your jeans.

Go and put on some proper fun and over the top music like 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)', and enjoy the rest of your day.

I should say that the music disgusts me. In general, humans don’t disgust me. They disappoint me.

Ditto.

Although, I was the guitarist in a band and we did PBTDL and BOOH as a big part of our set. I went from hating them to having an affection for those two tracks, plus a grudging respect for Steinman and Rundgren. The OGWT performance was brilliant, and brought PBTDL alive.
