Not that keen, Baron, but like I said, my reasons are obscure and pernickety, and to be truthful I'm not exactly sure what they were any more.
I only mentioned it as a kind of a rhetorical device to emphasize my sneering, soundchaser-bothering hatred of prog wankery.

The thread title hit me as "For the Love of Money" vs. "Across 110th Street," which made a kind of sense. Then the word "lumpen" was applied to the former which made me go ???.

Anyway I hate that Pink Floyd thing.

Darkness Fish's avatar alone would commit him to the Womack song, right?

Well, if we're talking extra-musical reasons there's plenty of cause to dislike Bobby Womack, if only for the way he behaved when Sam Cooke was killed.

These two tracks head to head it's no contest, though.

Actually, "Money" is one of the few Waters-ish Floyd songs I don't mind so much - pretty catchy and direct, really, and even swings a bit for its proggish time signature - but it's up against something that's actually really good (which last I checked, outranks 'not so bad').

And as usual, the contrarians are staying hidden. At least three of you need to explain yourselves!

I voted Womack, but I like this recent cover by Of Mice and Men, an emo metal band.

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk!

Well said, hazy. Will nobody put up why they like 'Money' more?

I loved Money when I was young, it was catchy and almost funky for a Floyd tune and I liked that change in style. I like how it changes to 4/4 time in the instrumental section and Gilmour's solo is reliably good as he always was in those days long before he sounded like he was producing solos in his sleep which is often the case in the 80s. Overtime I grew tired of it and it was likely to get skipped whenever I played the album, then I stopped playing the album altogether but when I do hear, such as live at the Roger Waters show, it still really hits the spot, including Money.

I like the Womack song too. New to me.

Thank you Ray! It's interesting to read that, cause between you and hatzy, that's what I generally think most people hear when they listen to 'Money' now, ie. it has an interesting funky sound for a progressive rock band, but one that's also not so interesting to them any more as time has gone on and with over-exposure. It's like a comfy blanket that's seen better days and doesn't keep you warm much any more.

It’s pretty BCB embarrassing that the poll is so close. Yeah, the intro is distinctive and all that, but Money is a tired old slog. The Womack has certainly been well aired since Jackie Brown but it remains sleek and dramatic. No brainer.

Well yes, of course.

I hadn't heard the other song before, and it is great, but not what I'd normally listen to.

I'll stick with one of the biggest selling songs of all time.
