None of which were punk bands.

Should have started with the Big Shits ( sept 76) and gone on from there...

Harsh.

Yeah. ‘Strawberries’ is the masterpiece.
‘The Black Album’ a close second.
‘MGE’ a close third.

Once they got beyond three chords (and the truth. Whatever, dude) they got more interesting.
Heyyyy!

Radiators (From Space)
The Germs
The Clash (but only pre-Sandanista, which is enough)
The Adverts
The Saints

(Assuming - which I do - that the Buzzcocks and Ramones qualify as pop bands)

The Damned in for the Ruts and the game is over

Assuming you only counted UK bands
Television and Ramones are both better than all of them.

Yep, and neither were Television, at least, not after Hell left. Blondie were punkier, and a better band in my experience

Indeed. The New York strain was a different animal altogether. Great in its own way, but nothing to with the neanderthal brutality of English punk. We all know that 99% of punk was rubbish, and for me that is its charm. Have a go mate. Just do whatever you can. It has GOT to be better than brotherhood Man , hasn't it?

In truth, it was dire. A pathetic aping of The Lord's Payer. Sad really. But what fun we had, and you should have seen the faces of the people in the audience. Priceless.

Husker Du are a Stoner Metal band essentially. Plus have you seen the state of them?

Punk doesn't have great depth as a genre. The best stuff is the best known.

The Ramones a novelty act? Oh please. What a narrow view.
