The Ruts were popular with the Dischord crowd. Their first album was easy to find as a cut-out,which is how I acquired it.

I think I just heard that recently, but was distinctly unimpressed. It may be that if you come to this stuff years/decades afterwards, it's lost some of its initial thrill.

WTF

They weren't really big over here, at least in the circles I was moving in. I don't recall ever being aware of them playing on the radio or on jukeboxes and they never came over and played shows/toured here. So yeah, I would say they didn't have a big impact here.

Agreed. I saw most of the UK punk bands that came through L.A. and I don’t remember them at all. And I’ve never heard them, either. They had no real impact here that I’m aware of.

Henry Rollins is always going on about them (and has fronted them a few times), so that might have given them a bit of US exposure over the years (if not at the time)

Mod and his obscure band names. I bet this band started out as the "next big thing".

Siouxsie and the Banshee's what?

Ask Spellcheck. They put apostrophes in everything.

Obviously everything up to and including The Scream. Particularly the early recordings of The Lord's prayer and those epic Peel Sessions.

BCB doesn’t talk about Punk much does it?
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

No -although we used to. I remember a number of lengthy Pistols threads that, much like the band itself, were very lively and disruptive; they really used to divide.
I guess the reason we don't talk about it as much is we're all getting older. Punk's one of those things that belong to your youth in many ways -it's not really current to our lives now, although I'm sure now I've said that, that there'll be a load of old punks to tell us they regularly have Discharge as a soundtrack when they're making their toast in the morning!
