Eh? A lot of us grew up with punk you dirty rotter.
It was a really important formative cultural influence for me.

so this idea that we're too old to discuss it - we were too old back then! it wasn't 'current' in 2004 either

Re: Top five punk bands
I still listen to Punk all the time. Just about every day i'll play an album or some tracks by some UK, US or Aussie punk bands. The notion that age has anything to do with it is just not true for me.

Yeah but you’re a weirdo.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Re: Top five punk bands
That, my endearingly direct friend, is beside the point. The idea that pop or punk or whatever has some kind of age limitation to liking it is something that i strongly disagree with, because i see many people around my age who like punk and such still too.

Nah, I’m with you. What I find is that I can go for months without any Punk listening then come back refreshed for a trip down the YouTube rabbit hole.

Re: Top five punk bands
Same here. And because it's actually a deceptively broad genre, i'll have periods where i'll listen a lot to Ramones, but then later on it'll be Descendents or X-ray Specs or Refused.

Ask Spellcheck. They put apostrophes in everything.
Obviously everything up to and including The Scream. Particularly the early recordings of The Lord's prayer and those epic Peel Sessions.
My sarcastic comments aside, thanks for your post. Siouxie is an artist I know very little of, barring the bigger hits. I'll check these records out.
‘The Scream’ is great. The earlier sessions/boots less so.
They really got interesting as they moved beyond ‘punk’ and got experimental, with McGeoch.
Kaleidoscope, JuJu, and Tinderbox were their best.
Heyyyy!

Getting the first 45 out means fuck-all if it sounds like old boozers croaking over sped-up Eddie Cochran

Re: Top five punk bands
The farther you move from Hardcore, the more the term "Punk" becomes nebulous..You fall into questions like: are the likes of Suicide, The Cramps, Wipers, Big Black, Mission of Burma, The Gun Club etc.. punk bands ? That being said, here are "Five":
Minutemen
Minor Threat / Fugazi / Teen Idles
Dead Kennedys
X
Black Flag
If including The Cramps and Suicide, the list would look different...A more interesting question might be Top 20 favorite punk/post punk albums...So many punk bands have singular moments in the sun, one good album or ep, that they might not show up as a "Favorite Band", but would have representation on a album/ep list...

You don't like "New Rose"? That's as good a track as The Damned ever released.
