BCB top 100 Television poll -18 MARCH DEADLINE

Postby The Modernist » 27 Feb 2018, 15:54

Okay we have a brand new spanking poll and one we haven't done before so the results should be fascinating.

-Compile an ordered list of your 30 favourite television shows. They can be of any genre and be from any time period. The only critieria is it must be stuff that's made for television.
- You have 150 points to allocate to your list. How you weight this is up to you.
- PM your completed list to Penk who will compile the results into a poll. We prefer your list to be sent to Penk rather than posted on the board so the overall list comes as more of a surprise when posted.

If you have any questions or would like to join in the discussion, the thread discussing the poll is here:

Thanks G for setting up the whole-board info. It'd be great to get as many people voting on this as possible.

As G says you can vote for whatever you like as long as it was made for TV - not just long-running dramas or sitcoms but also miniseries, documentaries, gameshows, talk shows and so on.

The 30 shows-150 points thing has worked before for similar polls; basically, the votes are counted first, so while giving Mrs Brown's Boys 121 of your 150 points might help it beat other shows that only get one vote, it won't help it beat something that got two votes with one point each.

Of course if that is all a bit confusing you can just send me 30 shows and say they all get five points each.

If you really, really, really can't think of 30 shows you want to vote for then feel free to send me a list of 20, with 100 points split between them, or even 10 with 50 points split between them.

A few other clarifications:

"Anthology" series or series with changing casts/stories/settings will be counted as single shows. So True Detective, Dr Who and Blackadder are single shows, you can't vote separately for different series (I think we're assuming that most people voting for True Detective are doing so on the basis of the first series, of course!).

Remakes or reboots will be counted separately. So if voting for Battlestar Galactica, for example, specify which version.

And different series under the same umbrella are separate shows. So vote for three or four different Star Treks if you want.

1. Match of the Day - 100 points
2. The Big Match -100 points
3. Pot Black -50 points
4. It Ain't 'Alf Hot Mum - 1 point.

The maths should be accurate as I've ran the figures through my accountant.

I like this, great idea. I'll have to give it some serious thought. Harry is spot on putting Match of the Day at the top :D

Not being much of a TV viewer, I'll have to see if I can make it to 30 shows that I love. I'll try to send a list if I can.

I really struggled with my list. I will go right ahead and add the disclaimer that for many of my choices I don't think every season is good, or have even *watched* every season/episode of them (though I've seen enough to feel confident about putting them in my list). Right away I would also say that a couple were cancelled before they even finished, and a handful others are still ongoing.

I managed to put together 30 fairly easily but I couldn't stretch much past that.

I felt the same, but of course for the few hours after I sent it, I was thinking of stuff I hadn't put in the list. Like:

The Sweeney
The Undateables
Spitting Image
World In Action
Louie
Hardtalk
Getting On
Big Train
The Trip
Steptoe and Son
Girls
Top of the Pops
Parkinson
This Life
South Park
The Morecambe and Wise Show
Ren and Stimpy
The Word
The Vietnam War
Vic Reeves Big Night Out
The Munsters
The Addams Family
Minder

Hi G,

Could you use your super admin powers (again) and move the posts below our first couple into the other thread? Just for the sake of keeping the discussion in one place...

No ‘Superstars’ in your list Harry?

Logically the end product will contain only English and American shows. I found plenty of German and Dutch shows I wanted to enter and ended up putting a few in there, hoping Frank can corroborate a couple of them and send them into the list.....
Most of my list is youth sentiment. I haven't got many current series I follow, I think I only had about 3 that are current.

I think there will be some Swedish drama. Probably the Decalogue too.

You and your sports, Harry! You're a bloody scream. I prefer a bit of top quality light entertainment.

1. That's Life
2. The Black and White Minstrel Show
3. It's a Royal Knockout
4. Sunday Night at the London Palladium
5. 3-2-1
It takes all sorts.
