Re: Alone Again Or vs. Alone Again (Naturally)
There's no 'point' to miss, Coan. Your post was all about how my taste was along what was it? "classic American 'rock journalism' POV" or something? It's predictable, in other words. Nevermind how The Doors, Dead, Replacements, etc aren't exactly mainstream American rock critics' choices. I wouldn't expect anything you say to actually be based in fact. My retort was that your taste, and Moddie's too, for that matter, is just as predictable. And your relentless devotion to the NME (you've actually started threads on just that subject, multiple times, I might add) merely points out the hypocrisy of your thesis. Not a point I'd expect you to 'get' either. At least not to admit, anyway.
And does Geraint's provincialism really need pointing out? I'm not sure if there is a more faithful adherent of all things Britannia than our G.
If you two are going to point the finger, than for fuck's sake... People in glass houses and all.

Have a bit of a think before you write next time, Matt.

(Naturally) is playing on the office stereo right now.
There's nothing exciting here, is there?
It's just mopey. Mopey and winky at the same time, somehow.
I'm taking a firm stance against this song.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Pfft. Good songs about the human condition are always exciting.
I’m taking a firm anti-Machuki stance. Go listen to some Jorge Ben.

I voted O'.
It is melancholy, and it brings some ease of mind.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Scandalous BCB hot take: Gilbert O’Sullivan is a far superior lyricist to Morrisey.
Discuss.

They're both good for what they do. Morrissey's lyrics are great. It's his melodies that fall far short of O'Sullivan's.

Pretty much this.
The melody line for Alone Again is bold, really fine example of doing something adventurous, creating a line within a line within a line....

O’Sullivan is definitely the better melodicist. But that extends to his words too. He fits his words into the melodies in such a seamless way.
