Good shout Ange. I find you have to really cherry pick his stuff. I did um and ah over buying a vinyl album of his the other day, but in the end I left it on the shelf. Some of his more singer-songwriter fare is a little bland for me, I prefer him when he gets a little funky as on the Remember My Song album.
That has some top notch playing from UK sessioners like Big Jim Sullivan and Chas and Dave ( sort of the UK equivalent of Muscle Shoals...no really! ).
You've already posted The Vulture which is great as is this one (later made famous by Eninem)

That first track is the kind of stuff where the production and musicianship cover up for the lack of a decent song. I find it pretty bland.

This is right - i have the album with something inside so strong on it - that is a brilliant song but the rest of the record is fairly dull.

Yeah, totally agree that cherry picking is the way to go, but there is a very nice comp. to be made from all of his LPs and singles.
Top tune.
I'll grant you it's not 'Good Vibrations', but i think it's more than just a decent song with some absolutely great production and performances.

Dobie Gray is good too. I mean how he writes and sings sweet music folky, souly, with a good productions. Discovering him was a revelation, a buried treasure, a guy who should have been a star.
