Amazon have clearly posted a bootleg in lieu of the official release! :)

Yep and the Who's official forum is having a cow about it this morning. Last I heard, Amazon UK had pulled the title completely and eople were wondering if their pre orders would be cancelled.

In other news, Pete Townshend's Who Came First is also being reissued on the same day as a 2_CD set. The new set includes all of the PT tracks from his Meher Baba private-release albums except (frustratingly) for one, the piano instrumental "Lantern Cabin". But the new set DOES include the 9 minute instrumental Baba O'Riley, which is a welcome release indeed.

Does it still fade out in mid-guitar solo?

YES! :x

Could be that the tape ran out mid-song and they decided to include what they had. That happened with the extended version of the "live" Donovan allbum. Perhaps it will be explained in the liner notes.

I have gotten a media advance from UMe & heard the whole thing. All songs on the official release are complete & uninterrupted.

As the last few posts describe, Amazon jumped the gun and posted a bootleg version of the title, which led to people clicking it and discovering "it's got the same damn edits as the bootlegs!"

From what I can tell the master source for all the bootlegs we have been listening to since the 70s come from a set of vinyl acetates that were cut in 1968, presumably for the band to listen and decide whether to go forward with full production. The acetates came from both performances, April 5 and 6.

For this release, they have ignored the April 5 portion of the show and done a proper remix from the master tapes of the April 6 show. It sounds much better than it ever has before, and the April 6 song versions are all superior to the April 5 versions heard on the bootlegs. AND the April 6 tapes include I'm A Boy and C'mon Everybody.

I'll say one more thing... the 33 minute "My Generation" sounds like no other Who music I have heard before. It's as if instead ending with an act of destruction, they are making the SOUND of destruction, but it goes on and on, and turns back into music for a while, then back into destruction.

I was reading my recent issue of Shindig! and they misrepresented this release as from the Fillmore West. I was all excited that the Who had released two albums from around the same period.

My copy is apparently being delivered today.

However, the artwork on the email is the same as the artwork for that bootleg file Amazon posted.... Yikes.

My email said it's coming tomorrow. After they've offloaded all their dodgy ones.

Question: why is Amazon U.S. selling it for more than $25?

It's a 2-CD set. But yeah that is kind of pricey.

This is utterly magnificent.

I had (and enjoyed) the same bootleg as everyone else for ages - but that now seems like little more than an appetizer for the main course.

The longer improvisations are the very definition of "one of our better nights". Pete raves about seeing The Pink Floyd at UFO (and how the records didn't even hint at the chaotic beauty) and there's definitely a point in "My Generation" where they all appear to have taken that particular baton and run with it,
