The Who Live at The Fillmore East 1968

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I have a single disc bootleg of this. Wonder if there's more material on this release.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Ho ho ho!!! "C'mon Everybody"!

A Who version of that song has never even been bootlegged in the past, not from the soundboard tapes.

I've suspected this was on the way. About 2 years ago there was a bootleg purporting to be "From The Master Reel". I got it and it was a definite source improvement from any bootleg I'd ever heard before. Much sharper and cleaner, more "master tape" sounding.

Any time that happens, something truly new and exciting hits the boot circuit this late in the game, you expect to hear about an official release coming down the road.

Well all right! Good news from the Who camp about record store day-ish releases. Now how about a little 1971 tour?!?!

Fuck yes!

But will "Relax" be complete, or still fade out mid-solo?

Now here's something else worth considering... the title specifies "April 6 1968."

The Who played two nights, April 5 and 6, and the existing bootleg has been confirmed to contain songs from BOTH shows. IIRC, the songs from the second half of the show (A Quick One, Boris The Spider, My Way, Shakin All Over, My Generation, ) came from the April 5 show, and the rest were recorded April 6. This was confirmed by comparing the boot to an audience tape known to be from one show, and some versions & stage banter matched while others did not.

Is it possible they have found the complete tapes of both nights, and not only will we get C'mon Everybody, we will also get new and different versions of half the songs in the set list? THAT would be incredible, especially if the complete show from April 5 was also scheduled for release.

The boots all have Relax & My Generation cut off mid-extended jam. The "master tape" boot had the same cuts. But it is reasonable to dream that the un-cut tapes exist and have been found for this project.

I was just looking at that. It’s a total fucking con.

Anybody who wants to pay that kind of money for four/five discs that all feature pretty much the same thing needs their head checked.

Interesting how during "Relax" you can sense Hendrix being all over this. Townshend really was deeply impressed/shocked by him, wasn't he?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong..... but I was listening to the download file Kev.... so I (maybe) just assumed it was coming today! I thought they only released that file if it was being delivered that day?

Does it still fade out in mid-guitar solo?

I got an e-mail from Amazon UK this morning to say my album was up for listening to on Amazon music & lo & behold, it is.

I'm A Boy, Substitute & My Generation are bonus tracks. I didn't get a chance to listen to it before I had to come into work unfortunately.
Not sure that this is the real thing, Mook. I noticed yesterday that Amazon UK are linking the official Fillmore East with this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fillmore-A...3 ... lmore+East

which appears to be a 'semi-legal', especially as "I'm A Boy", "Substitute" & "My Generation" are from Felixstowe 1966. The same company has also released a CD of Paris 1970.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Not sure what you were listening to but I got the media advance of this release, and the tracks that were previously chopped on bootlegs - Relax, A Quick One and My Generation - all appear in their uncut entirety.

The Relax version is the same one from the bootleg, but goes all the way to the end of the song. All the other tracks from the end part of the show - I'm A Boy, A Quick One, My Way, Cmon Everybody, Shakin All Over, Boris the Spider, and My Generation - are different versions, from the second night's performance. The bootleg had half the show from April 5, half from April 6. This official release is all April 6.

I'm working on my full review but in short, be very excited, EXPECIALLY if you are a fan of the bootleg.
