Manchester Free Trade Hall

Given that there are 4 posts on this thread, it shouldn't be all that surprising that this has failed to be noticed here.

On the other hand, this is the sort of "canonical" stuff that dominates most of what gets posted.

The heaviest drummer (I don't mean his girth) in the loudest band of 1966. That he could turn around a few years later and do something as light-handed as "Ruby (Don't Take Your Love To Town)" speaks well of him as a musician, whatever one's take on the music overall.

Not a bad actor, neither, from what little I saw.

I was surprised to learn that Jones is best known for famous roles on TV. Since I know almost nothing about TV, this never registered. In comparison, I've heard over and over the stories about the 1966 tour. I remember getting a copy of the incorrectly named live recording from Subterranean Records when they were still open in Greenwich Village.

That performance of his on that Manchester 66 recording is one of the most influential recordings on my own playing, in terms of "how to express power."
