This was a couple of weeks after I turned 17. I bought 13 of those, so I used all ten votes: 2 x Yardbirds, McGuire, His Bobness, Evs (natch), 1-2-3, Who, McCoys, Dusty, Roy Head. Three that missed out were Seekers, Toys and Sonny & Cher. Many of the rest are abominations; Matt Monro, Ken Dodd, Peter and Gordon, Matt Monro, Cliff Richard and the Bachelors can all fuck right off, and the Fortunes and Four Pennies are on a watch list.

A surprising number of things I actually liked there: Positively one of Dylan's best songs, the Everlys, Manfred, Stones, and the McCoys. I also voted for "Yesterday Man", because I loved it as a kid.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Lots of sap here, but also tough to narrow it down to 10. Hated to leave the Seekers and both Yardbirds tracks off.

Of course, the US list from the same week, with lots of Motown, is better.

Anyway, Stones, Animals, Dylan, Everlys, Who, Pickett, and Head are the obvious ones. But I also gave the Nashville Teens their first vote - that one's great! - as well as Manfred Mann and the Toys against the inevitable stiff competition.
