New Cowboy Junkies, you say?

Oh yes. Only listened twice but am liking it. All That Reckoning came out on Friday.

I enjoyed most of it but some of it just fell too far into the background and I forgot it was playing. Like their other albums I guess.

Although it has grown on me on 3rd and 4th play 8-)

John Maus - Addendum

Doesn't add much to last year's splendid 'Screen memories' so far. Doomy synths and lugubrious recitation. Maybe needs further listening.

Kamasi Washington - Heaven & Earth

Yeah, I can't see anyone playing this straight through. I don't.
But 'Earth' is a jam, smears together in a 70-minute sumptuous blur of sound. I'm beginning to hear the minute distinctions between songs, but it's not really necessary.
Maybe needs more orchestras.

Someday, disc 2...

Brona McVittie - We are the wildlife

2018's floaty new age moment. Plays the harp, likes to touch trees. Very uncool, but goes well with lunch salads, maybe some pasta. I'm not above it.

Joan Shelley - Rivers and vessels EP

Shelley's album from last year was one of my favourites. This lowkey Bandcamp EP -couple of covers, Nick Drake, JJ Cale, some I don't know that sound traditional- can't compare, but it's got some scattered moments.

Ok, one last attempt to push something modern and poptastic on here. I may have already given them their own thread, but surely Sink Ya Teeth should appeal to someone around here?

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Wild beasts - Last night all my dreams came true

Live in the studio, break-up set from these favourites of Girl Spoon. I like 'em, but it's just an afterthought, this record.

Willie Nelson - Last man standing

Familiar late period Nelson quality - some joke songs, some sad songs.

Rolling blackouts CF - Hope downs

Losing the mystique of last year's EP, this debut album sounds like the '120 minutes revivalists' tag. I'm undecided.

Sea and cake - Any day

Featherlight stuff, you hardly hear the music. But I think it's nicely done. Something about those circling chords.

Thee oh sees - Dead medic EP

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaCQY8sGaKk&index=1&list=RDiaCQY8sGaKk

Two 10 minute jams from last year's Orc sessions, to tide us over until Smote Reverser arrives. Krautrock-y.

Field Division - Dark Matter Dreams

Don't quite get the constant comparison with Buckingham Nicks but it's a sweet little album.

Tropical Fuck Storm - A Laughing Death in Meatspace

This ended up being a very good release from 2018 and as it stands, it would be in my top 5 of the year. There’s a Birthday Party/early Nick Cave vibe throughout the album, but comes off as refreshing with their eclectic and melodically charged blues rock rhythms. I do recommend this one.

Verdict: 3.5/5.

Tracyanne & Danny - Tracyanne & Danny

Some nice songs, but there's something just a little too cozy about it. Hasn't convinced me yet.

Superior no wave sax skronk. Relentless stuff.

Most unusual album I'll hear all year. Author Gerald Murnane reading his 1600 word palindrome (!!) to musical backing on one side and reading lyrics to other songs and writings on the other.

Here's an interesting recent article on him:
