Re: Moody Blues: ranking the classic 7
Very tough.
EXCELLENT
To Our Children's Children's Children - most consistent, actually rocks in places, least naff
Days of Future Passed - best songs possibly
In Search of the Lost Chord - solid "coming into themselves" album, their Revolver
Seventh Sojourn - latter-day depth, maturity, moroseness
VERY GOOD
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour - some stunning, some not so stunning
On the Threshold of a Dream - still a solid album, though I'm a bit over it at the moment
GOOD
A Question of Balance - many good things on it, but somewhat lesser

Re: Moody Blues: ranking the classic 7
Not tough for me at all. EGBDF and ISotLC are the ones I like without reservation, and DoFP is the one I like the most with reservations (expressed elsewhere).
But I might actually put the first album (+ period singles) higher than any of these.

Not really. The top three pick themselves.
In Search of the Lost Chord
On the Threshold of a Dream
To Our Children's Children's Children
Then I'd go:
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour
A Question of Balance
Days of Future Passed
Seventh Sojourn
The Magnificent Seven...not so magnificent afterwards, unfortunately.

Same choice. I lost interest with each album, but still hold "In search" in high esteem, probably because it was my first " grown up " album. Sure, I had albums by the Beatles, Kinks, Beach Boys, but the Moodies was the first non mainstream l.p. that I bought.

Very hard to pick them in order. Certainly EGBDF and Days of Future Passed are lesser records that the others. They made them all is such a short space of time they sort of all follow on from each other in a very pleasing way.
Threshold
Children's Children
Lost Chord
Seventh Sojourn
Question Of Balance
DOFP
EGBDF
Threshold

Interesting* that the first three albums are rated equally here.
*not interesting in the slightest

Re: Moody Blues: ranking the classic 7
They're not all equal though, but when you only have three choices then it's obvious what they are.
