Never seemed to manage to get hold of a decent copy of this - the cover, or should I say the stiff cellophane housing the records, always seems to have caused damage to them over time and the records are always scratched. Have you got a decent copy?

I picked up this copy for half the original price![]()
It's a really good copy, the vinyl is almost mint. I did need to give it a good clean however.
The 'inner sleeve' plastic and foam are shot, the glue has perished so the inner is detached from the sleeve leaving a big brown streak where it was attached. Good thing that particular 'innovation' died the death pretty quickly.
Your description of the cover matches my experience almost exactly - what were they thinking?

Poorly received at the time of its release by the cognoscenti and I must confess I was taken by surprise when I took it home and put it on the turntable for the first time but like all good things sometimes they take a while - it's a great album.

Bought this when it first came out - took a while to get to like it.
Seem to remember it was a toss up between this and the Cars' first album, which I think was released at the same time. I was persuaded by the shop assistant to go for this one, wasn't very keen on Sting's voice to begin with. Couple of years later and they'd conquered the World.
Bought the Cars' album a short while later. Both very good albums.

I was obsessed with the first 2 albums for the early part of the 80's and then kept it secret when I became hip

Now I'm an old fart I can love 'em again

Cheers, Kev! One day, I'll find something of use in a charity shop.

Probably their poorest album? I think so.

The last I bought by the Police. I didn't hate it... but I won't be searching for a replacent copy.
