What a good looking chap that Phil Oakey was!

The Human League's appeal stretched way beyond the NME readership Matt. You shouldn't really need telling this.

Davey the Fat Boy wrote:I can’t speak for others, but I’m pretty on record about not being a huge fan of electronic music as a genre. So in my case, it’s silly to accuse me of trying to paper over that.
But it simply isn’t true that I dislike synth music because of the instrument. There’s plenty of examples to the contrary. Like all things, it depends on the specific aesthetic choices involved.
Just a few weeks ago I was involved in a conversation on Facebook about McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time.” A few of its detractors were bemoaning the synth sounds. I defended them, as I think (regardless of what you might feel about the song itself) that the sonic choices on the track all work pretty well to my ears.
Yeah you'll accept it when it comes from an ex member of The Beatles. Funny that.

Don't I know it, Geraint. Why, they 'invaded' the states, just like the Beatles!

Come now Davey, your blind devotion to anything Beatles related is well established. The fact that for years you were using Kraftwerk as a BCB meme for 'shit and overrated' tells me everything I need to know about your attitude to synths. I doubt there's much that would get your approval, although I'm sure we can find a Dylan song which uses a synth which you can use as evidence of your broad-minded appreciation of the genre.

Lads, lads...
The Human League/ABC/Dexy’s/U2/New Order/Cure....were (was?) our response to Punk. The weirdos had seized control, emboldened by Punk’s spirit of give it a go.
Therefore the US analog would be The DK’s/Bad Brains/Minutemen/R.E.M./Replacements/Sonic Youth US indie axis not Journey or Kansas.

I think that synth pop stuff is more like k-pop. it's catchy and you can bounce around in your stylish clothes.
