A qualified "yay" here. Its charm has been dissipated by over playing. I'd much rather hear other songs from the album.

Re: You're Gorgeous - yay or nay?
I preferred these threads when they were called shit or hit -and we do need a poll!
There was a trend in the 90s (see also The Beautiful South and Space) of combining drippy musical settings with supposedly biting, misanthropic lyrics. I guess Costello was the godfather of all this. Anyway, the Baby Bird track is very much another example of the trend.
And most unwelcome it all was too because you tended to get the worst of both worlds: bland, treacly music being fronted by some sneering, too clever by half wanker.
So it's a nay then.

I wonder if the Divine Comedy would feel hurt at having been excluded from this assembly.

I like it because it's catchy but I don't like it because it's overplayed but I like it because it makes me nostalgic for the nineties but i don't like it because in hindsight it's much weaker than loads of other catchy hits from the same era.
I can just about handle you driving like a pissed up crackhead and treating women like beanbags but I'm gonna say this once and once only Gene, stay out of Camberwick Green!

I’d agree with all that and add that the tune was about as poor as you could get - minimal in the very worst way possible.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

I think there was some wit and a decent voice there so they're deservedly excluded.

G's dead right.
