What was the first self-penned album?

Postby NMB » 22 Dec 2017, 10:49

What's the earliest album you can think of which contains only material written by the artist(s) ? So no cover versions and no contributions from external writers. I just read an article saying it was A Hard Day's Night but there must be earlier examples than that.

The odd thing are the credits are mixed between Fury and Wilberforce, but Wilberforce was a pseudonym for Fury. Not sure why he disguised it in this way.

From Billy Fury dot com

The problem was that Larry Parnes wanted a cut of the royalties.
So Billy invented Wilber Wilberforce, the phantom songwriter. Wilber wrote the songs, Billy bought them from Wilber, and Wilber collected the royalties.
Give a shit or be a shit.
