Very much overshadowed by some of his contemporaries, but I really enjoy his music - seemed like a normal guy, with a normal job, who just also happened to write a lot of very good songs. Don't know how or why he really ended up in Switzerland - always seem quite incongruous - but he also wrote a very enjoyable (if horribly edited) memoir of his days with the "Gulf Coast Boys". Generally he's very generous and seemed amazed to be surrounded by all these great characters, but he has a few choice bad words to send around as well, notably Rodney Crowell's way.

I have some of the albums he released on the Swiss Brambus label in the noughties, must dig them out again.
