Anybody else a fan of Sounds of the Sirens?
We saw them a few weeks back, and they did a great set, but pretty well unknown.

I am now! Great stuff!!

I had her debut album years ago, but lost it in the great divorce CD custody battle.

There was some really good stuff on it. Especially Manhattan Avenue.

Thanks for the reminder! I'm off to see if I can find it cheaply on Amazon...

Have all the singles, both albums (2 copies of the first album, the first of which I bought day of release with the limited live single), several badges, saw them many times & the band I was in borrowed keyboards from Henry Priestman. Have the pre Yachts half single Do the Chud by the Chuddy Nuddies (other half being Big in Japan by Big in Japan, which was bought in Probe Records (being served by almost legendary shop assistant Pete Burns).

I'm the only fan in the valley.

I'm pretty sure that only pcqgod or Nolamike would remember them.

Speaking of Austin bands from that time, do you remember any of these?

Naked Vanilla
Catastrophe Ballet
The Scriveners
Salem Tree
Happy Family
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Not surprising, I guess...it was such a busy scene. Most of those never got much attention. Scriveners were particularly good. Some local music bigshot (I think the guy who managed the Cannibal Club?) was managing Naked Vanilla, and they got to record with Steve Albini before imploding, at least.

Was that the Happy Family that did an album on 50 Skidillion Watts? I vaguely remember them.

Might’ve been a little before my time. You had to be 18 to get into the Cannibal Club and when I turned 18 it folded and turned into the Jelly Club or some such. I wasn’t really able to see anything in Austin until maybe around ‘90 or ‘91.

I'm more of a fan of Son of Bazerk, Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy/Franti and Spearhead, Dälek and (why not?) Sugarhill Gang and Tone Loc. I like the funky bits in Quest, De La Soul, think Liquid Swords is brilliant too, some early Kanye and some Dre-productions. Very out of touch with the genre because a lot of it doesn't musically interest me.

That's a good list. Not a Franti fan, even though I kinda know the guy from hoops and clubbing in mid '80s.
