If you liked this one Josh, then I'd advise Defector as your next step rather than Acolyte

Defector is inferior to SM imho. I’d stick with Acolyte, or Please Don’t Touch, or his last two are pretty good.
Most of his albums are worthwhile, except Cured, Blues With A Feeling.

Defector is the next logical step after Spectral Mornings,as it was made with virtually the same band. It isn't as good,as nothing he did is, but its not bad. Acolyte is much more Genesis-y, and PDT is a hodge podge. A lovely hodge-podge though, with some excellent guest vocals. All four are very listenable, and the Legacy version of Defector has a good ( but ubiquitous) live set from Reading 81.

Oh, wow. What a horribly brutal fade on the first track.

The full version is better with a much more satisfying and natural finish to the track. It a bonus on reissues but should have been adopted for the album

Acolyte is very arcane and baroque next to SM.
I've had it for 40 years and have never really got to grips with it
Defector is a similar record to SM.
Which is why I suggested it.
